We just found out about a proposed 775% tax increase on pipe tobacco!

A new bill would raise the tax on pipe tobacco from $2.8311 to $24.78 per pound.

Obviously, this is ludicrous, and there is no way we can let this happen.

We have made it easy for you to take action. We have a free automated service that will email your Congressman and Senator.

We\'ve already written the letter for you. You can write your own comments too if you like.

Please post this in your favorite forums so all pipe smokers can help us stop this tax increase.

This is the second best thing you can do to fight Tobacco Tax's... The #1 thing you can do is grow your own and stop buying the Over Taxed Tobacco that they prey on...

Dear Mr. Vrede:

Thank you for contacting me regarding the Tobacco Tax Parity Act of 2010 (H.R.4439). I appreciate hearing your concerns on this matter.

This bill was introduced in the House of Representatives on January 13, 2010, by Representative Scott Cohen (D-TN). If enacted, it would amend the Internal Revenue Code of 1986 to raise the excise tax on pipe tobacco from $2.3811 per pound to $24.78 per pound. This would match the federal excise tax on pipe tobacco with the current federal excise tax for roll-your-own tobacco. This bill has been referred to the House Committee on Ways and Means for further consideration. Currently, there is no similar legislation pending in the Senate.

Should legislation related to this issue come before the full Senate, I will certainly keep your views in mind. Thank you again for contacting me.

Sincerely,
Carl Levin
